FAQ for TapiRex

If your question is not answered here and you have problems with incoming calls:
To help us to fix your problem, please enable the setting "Write log" and send the file "protocol.log" from "C:\Program Files\TapiRex" after a real incoming call (no simulation!) to helpdesk@scendix.com. Please also include a backup of your current settings (choose "Options" -> "Backup Settings" in the TapiRex main window and attach this saved file).

These are the questions which have been asked several times. Perhaps your question is answered here as well:

Q #1: TapiRex shows no incoming call at all, the log shows no calls either.
A: Please open the settings of the Tapi-Driver in TapiRex and play around with the "owner" and "datamodem"-settings. Some modems need either of these settings turned on/off to work properly. If you use a modem, you can also try to create the modemlog.txt (see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B142730) and add this file in a request to us.

Q #2: The notification is shown, but contains no callerID. The log in the main window does not contain any callerID as well.
A: To make the number available to TapiRex, several requirements have to be met:
- The caller has to allow that his number is sent. Some phones allow to turn it off to send the callerID.
- The phone provider has to send the number. In some countries, this is not a free service and you have to pay a monthly fee to your phone provider to get the numbers on incoming calls.
- The modem has to recognize the number correctly. This is an issue of the manufactures modem drivers. Stealth Software has written a very good article on how to probably fix it, if your modem does not read the callerID correctly. Changing files manually on your system is your own risk. If your modem does not handle the callerID correct, the manufacturer should deliver the correct drivers for your modem.
- The Tapi drivers of your modem manufacturer has to pick up the callerID from the modem driver and has to give this callerID to TapiRex on request. This problem is very hard to find. The manufacturer of the Tapi driver is the only one who could help if there is a problem on your modem.

Q #3: Only an empty notification is shown, the number of the caller is displayed in the log-window.
A: As introduced in beta 9 of TapiRex, there is a new setting in the Tapi-driver options of TapiRex called "get CallerID in 'OnCallerID'". Please enable this setting and try again.

Q #4: The number of the caller is shown, but the name not shown?
A: Do you have the database-connection set up correctly? Sometimes, the incoming number differs in one leading or trailing number from the number in the database. TapiRex can then not find the correct number (although the format of the numbers in the database and OutlookŪ does not matter: you can add "-", "(" or ")" to you numbers, TapiRex will still find them).

Q #5: I can't get TapiRex to show incoming calls, but YAC does. What could i do?
A: As introduced in Version 1.0.0 BETA 6, TapiRex can listen to YAC-signals too. Just set "YAC-Listener" as DataSource in TapiRex Client and add the IP of the client PC to the YAC server.

Q #6: Will my [insert your modem, ISDN card, VOIP connection, ... here] work with TapiRex?
A: - Modems: Tapirex dows not communicate with the modem directly: all communication is done via standarddized Tapi 2.1-drivers. These drivers are delivered by the manufacturer of the modem. All newer modem come with more or less good Tapi drivers. I do not know any concrete modem which does NOT work with TapiRex.
- ISDN-Card: Try the free CAPI-Plugin for TapiRex which directly connects TapiRex to the CAPI drivers of your ISDN card. Unselect all Tapi-Lines to not get every call signalled twice (once through the CAPI-drivers and once trhough the Tapi-drivers listening on the same physical line).
- VOIP-connection: Only Skype is directly supported. All other services are only supported if they deliver coorect TAPI 2.1 compliant drivers for their connection. The SDK gives every developer and company the possibility to connect TapiRex to any source for incoming calls.

Q #7: What is the best size of the contacts' pictures?
A: Best size is 52 x 57 pixel.
